Students Celebrate A-Levels Success
Huge excitement across the County Borough today (Thursday) as A-Level and AS students went back to their respective schools to receive their results.
Cllr Eudine Hanagan, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, spent the day visiting as many comprehensive schools as possible, chatting to staff and congratulating the pupils.
The number of young people in the County Borough who have secured A* to E passes in their A Level examinations stands at 96.6per cent.
Pupils achieving A* to C passes stands at 69.1 per cent, with 17.2 per cent of students achieving A* to A passes.
Please note: These are provisional grades released by the WJEC only. Schools will also have entered students with other examination boards, but on average, two-thirds of entries in Wales are with the WJEC. The results also do not include vocational qualifications which have an A-Level equivalent.
As well as receiving their examination results at school on Thursday morning (August 18), many students also received their results via email.
Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “Visiting our schools on A-Level Results Day is always such an enjoyable experience for me. It is the fruition of many years hard work for so many of our young people and teaching staff, not forgetting the valuable support of parents and carers.
“Our A-Levels/BAC and BTEC results have improved faster than the regional average today and I am thrilled with our continued progress.
“I once again offer my warmest congratulations to all of our pupils who have worked so hard to obtain their results and wish them all the very best as they continue their academic life at college and university.
“Having gained the best education possible in Rhondda Cynon Taf, many of our students can now concentrate on the next stage of their education within the County Borough or further afield, including at Oxford and Cambridge universities.
“As a Council, we are totally committed to providing opportunities for all young people to go on to achieve their full potential through a range of support services.
“We also continue to progress with our school investment programme which seeks to ensure young people are benefitting from learning in educational environments fit for the 21st Century.”
Earlier this year, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council announced a £7m investment in its school buildings and facilities outside of the Council’s ambitious £160m 21st Century Schools Programme.
The 21st Century Schools Programme aims to transform the learning experience of pupils, ensuring they are taught in classrooms with the technologies and facilities needed to deliver a 21st Century curriculum.
These projects have been match-funded by the Welsh Government through its 21st Century Schools and Education Programme.
