ido Ponty, National Lido of Wales, has reached the final of the National Lottery Awards 2016 – the only Welsh project to be shortlisted.

Originally built in 1927, Lido Ponty has undergone a major £6.3m restoration project and re-opened to the public in 2015.
Since then, thousands of swimmers of all ages and abilities have visited Wales’ premier outdoor water attraction.
Hundreds of well-wishers also gathered at Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales, to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall on July 6.
The Lido Ponty regeneration project beat off stiff competition from over 600organisations to reach the public voting stage in this year’s National Lottery Awards – the annual search for the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects.
Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales, is competing against six other projects to be crowned the winner of the Heritage category.
Winners of the seven National Lottery Awards categories will each get a £3,000 cash prize to spend on their project and an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy.
The 1920s art deco lido at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd has been restored to its former glory and transformed into a national family attraction.
It incorporates many original features, as well as exciting new 21st Century additions such as three heated pools, the Waterside Café, new heated indoor changing facilities as well as the original outdoor cubicles and Lido Play, a new state-of-the-art, locally-themed outdoor adventure park for younger visitors.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Cabinet Member for Environment Leisure and Culture, said: “Winning the prestigious National Lottery Award and having our work showcased on national television would be an honour.
“Lottery money has helped us restore and update our Grade II listed lido, while also allowing us to add new features such as a fully-interactive Visitor Centre with a lift and disabled access.
“We welcomed almost 25,000 visitors from all over Wales in our first 10 weeks of opening this year.
“It is so easy to vote for Lido Ponty so we are hoping the public will continue to get behind us and support us, helping us to gain national recognition for all involved in recovering this beloved treasure.”
TV star and actor John Barrowman, who will be presenting the National Lottery Awards for the sixth time this year, said: “The National Lottery Awards are a great way to shine a spotlight on outstanding lottery-funded projects.
“Now in their 13th year, the Awards celebrate the talent and dedication of the amazing staff and volunteers that run incredible life -hanging Lottery-funded projects for the benefit of their communities and the people who live in them.
“Lido Ponty has worked very hard to become a finalist and it now needs your support because the project with the most votes in each category will be crowned the winner.
“Projects such as Lido Ponty, the National Lido of Wales, receive funding thanks to National Lottery players who raise £36 million every single week for Good Causes across the UK.”
