As part of the Council’s £85m investment in schools in Rhondda and Tonyrefail, improvement works begin at Tonypandy Community College. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This substantial investment is supported by the Welsh Government’s 21st Century Schools programme and forms part of the Council’s wider £200m, three year, RCTinvest programme which will see investment in Play Areas, Highways, Leisure, Town and Village Centres as well as schools across the county borough. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Initial works on the Tonypandy site, which started on July 25, 2016, will see the creation of a new all weather 3G sports pitch, refurbishment of the former tennis courts to create a new multi use games area and the development of an access road with additional parking for disabled users. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This is just the beginning of a series of developments and improvements to Tonypandy Community College planned over the next two years with brand-new teaching facilities for design and technology, complete refurbishment and remodelling of the Science faculty with brand-new, state of the art laboratories and refurbishment of the remainder of the school buildings. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

There will also be a brand new facility for primary aged children who will join the new 3-16 school once opened. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “It is so exciting to see our planned investments in schools across Rhondda and Tonyrefail starting to be delivered. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“One of the key aims driving this investment is to improve educational attainment, outcomes and the wellbeing of our young people and we know from previous experience that similar investments in schools across the county borough have contributed the delivery of these aims. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The investment will also ensure that the new school is able to fully provide the proposed new curriculum for Wales. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“In recent years, with the support of Welsh Government, this Council has invested over £100m in schools across Rhondda Cynon Taf for the benefit of pupils, staff and the wider community and Tonypandy Community College is now the latest to benefit. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Of course our investment is not just focussed on improving the teaching facilities but also the recreational and sporting provision and the creation of a new 3G all weather pitch and the new multi use games areas will also provide a welcome improvement to the existing facilities.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The works to create a new 3G all weather pitch, refurbish the games areas and develop the access road and disabled parking will begin on the 25 July 2016 and are expected to take approximately 16 weeks to complete. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Residents are advised that all deliveries will be delivered to the site via Llewellyn Street and that HGV deliveries will not being permitted between the hours of 08.00 – 9.00 and 15.00 – 16.00hrs. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
