Work Is Progressing – Y Pant Update
Work is progressing well at Y Pant Comprehensive School as the £24m investment nears completion.
The investment, which is part of the Council’s 21st Century Schools programme supported by Welsh Government, will see new and improved facilities for the benefit of pupils, staff and the wider community.
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, recently visited Y Pant to see the latest works.
Cllr Hanagan said: “It was fantastic for me to go to Y Pant and see first-hand the progress that has been made there as part of our £24m, 21st Century Schools investment.
“The latest improvements include the refurbishment of the drama block, renewal of the gym roof and the installation of a fantastic, state-of-the-art Multi-Use Games Area.
“Work on the new school building is also coming along well and the excitement is definitely increasing in the school amongst pupils and staff as works near completion.
“The days of pupils being taught in the mobile classrooms, which currently make up about 25 per cent of the teaching facilities and the old, outdated 1950s teaching block, are nearly over and pupils and staff can soon look forward to a future in a modern, 21st Century school.
“This year’s GCSE results were the best ever for Y Pant demonstrating the positive, ‘business as usual’ approach that staff and pupils have adopted whilst the substantial improvements to school facilities have been, and continue to be, carried out.
“The council remains committed to providing the best possible school facilities for pupils across Rhondda Cynon Taf and we are grateful for the ongoing support of Welsh Government via the 21st Century Schools programme.”
Works at Y Pant completed on the school site include the development of a new 3G all-weather pitch and most recently the refurbishment of drama block which includes improved SEN facilities such as a nurture room providing a relaxed environment for pupils.
