Works To Address Flooding On A4059 Complete
Works to improve flood defences along parts of the A4059 are now complete, thanks to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s multi-million-pound (£23m) Highways, Transportation, Infrastructures and Strategic Projects (HTISP) Investment Programme.
The £85,000 works aimed to address several areas that have been prone to surface water flooding for many years along the bends referred to locally as “Letty Turner’s bends”.
Now these essential works have been completed it is hoped that the frequency of flooding in the area will be greatly reduced and Capacity in the drainage system has be improved.
Works are continuing right across the County Borough, with every area benefiting from this massive investment scheme – so far the programme has seen over 60 streets tackled alongside major A-roads, roundabout improvement, bridge refurbishments as well as flood reduction works.
Over £53m has already been invested in improving and repairing the County Borough’s Highways and Transportation Infrastructures and on Strategic Projects in recent years.
This work demonstrates Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s commitment to maintain and improve the road infrastructure for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors alike.
Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, Councillor Andrew Morgan, who is also Cabinet Member for Highways, said:
“The Cabinet recognises the importance of investing in our key priorities and that is why the £200m RCTinvest programme is being delivered over the next three years benefitting areas such as Flood Alleviation, Leisure and Outdoor Leisure Facilities, Play Areas, Highways and Structures, Transport Infrastructure, Schools, Recycling Facilities, Housing and Town and Village Centres.
“Now that the essential refurbishment works along the A4059 have been completed it is hoped that the frequency of flooding in the area will be greatly reduced, as well as inlet conditions being improved.
“Myself and my Cabinet wholeheartedly agree that improvements to our highways and structures, such as those now completed on the A4059, continue to be a key priority when it comes to allocating our financial resources.
“We will be investing over £23m in Highways Improvements, Infrastructure, and Strategic Projects over the next three years – this is on top of the £53m we have already invested since 2011 meaning that by 2018/19 we will have invested over £76m in these key areas in recent years.
