Approval For Dan-Y-Coed Sale
New homes could soon be constructed on the current site of an ageing building in West Cross.
Swansea Council’s Cabinet has approved the sale of Dan-y-Coed House to Bellway Homes after the property was put on the market earlier this year.
Proceeds from the sale will be reinvested back into council services for the benefit of residents across the city.
Dan-y-Coed House had been used as a centre for outdoor activities for many years, but the substantial costs needed to refurbish the building mean the council will instead now focus resources on its two other centres in Rhossili and Port Eynon.
The council has also now appointed a new outdoor activities service manager to make the service more competitive, sustainable and viable in future.
All bookings taken for Dan-y-Coed House up to end of August this year will be honoured.
Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “The sale of the Dan-y-Coed House site is the latest example of the great work being done to make best use of our estate and become leaner than ever before. This is especially important at a time when we’re facing unprecedented financial challenges and need to be innovative to bridge a major funding gap and protect as many council services as possible.
“All of our assets are under continuous review as we look to secure best value for our land and property in a drive to become a more streamlined and sustainable organisation that’s fit for the future.”
Legal documentation is also now being finalised for the former Manselton and Cwmbwrla school sites, with sales agreed for both properties. The sale of the former pupil referral unit in West Cross is now in solicitors’ hands too, with the site earmarked for a small residential development.
Other land to be marketed later this summer includes a seven and a half-acre plot opposite Asda in Llansamlet.
