Chinese Students Share Their Love For Swansea

Chinese students based in Swansea are sharing their love for the city. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Featuring locations including Rhossili Bay, the city centre and the maritime quarter, a video put together by the Swansea Chinese Students and Scholars Association says the city has “carved their lives with tenderness.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The video will be played on Castle Square’s big screen as part of the ‘Our Abertawe: Celebrating Swansea Together’ event on Saturday March 4. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Also including the returning AberDewi festival, it’s hoped the Swansea Council organised event will create positive connections and forge stronger relationships between Swansea’s growing, diverse, multi-cultural population. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Lasting from 11am to 6pm, the event will include music, food, dance and workshops from Swansea, Wales and around the world. Other features of the event include the AberDewi parade through the city centre, as well as mass singalongs of Calon Lân and the Welsh national anthem. Street busking and performances from a number of Welsh bands and choirs have also been arranged. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “The fantastic video the Chinese students have put together encapsulates what Swansea is all about because it highlights how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world where the people are so warm and welcoming. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The video will be one of many features making up Saturday’s event where we’ll be celebrating both our Welsh heritage and Swansea’s modern, multi-cultural make-up. I’d encourage anyone who has the time to call into Castle Square on the day because it will be a free, family-friendly festival of food, live music, entertainment and culture that will appeal to all ages. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“By embracing one-another’s differences and celebrating the things we all have in common, we hope the event will lead to even more cohesive communities right across the city.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Stalls and activities will form part of the event too, as well as an exhibition celebrating the history of Swansea’s cultural and ethnic diversity. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
