Council Unveils Swansea Central Transformation Exhibition

A public exhibition is taking place later this week, giving people the chance to share their views on ideas and concepts to regenerate Swansea’s St David’s development site – which has been temporarily renamed ‘Swansea Central’. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The exhibition is being held next to New Look in St Mary’s Square on Thursday December 1 (10am to 8pm), Friday December 2 (10am to 4pm) and Saturday December 3 (10am to 4pm). ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Swansea Council has appointed Rivington Land to manage the regeneration of the site, which is made up of land both north and south of Oystermouth Road. The development site includes the LC car park and the former St David’s shopping centre site. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A new digital indoor arena, more shops, restaurants leisure attractions and a broad pedestrian link over Oystermouth Road are among the proposals, as the council looks to create jobs and transform Swansea city centre into a top class destination for residents and visitors. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Feedback received during consultation will inform the detail of a draft outline planning application due to be published towards the end of January, 2017. Further consultation will then be held before the submission of an outline planning application in March, 2017. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A website is also now live at www.swanseacentral.info where people can share their views. People are encouraged to either visit the website or call into the exhibition, where they can see plans and complete a questionnaire or feedback card. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “The updated ideas and concepts Rivington Land our development partners are proposing are enormously exciting because they have the potential to transform Swansea city centre’s retail, recreation and entertainment offer. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We want as many views as possible to help inform our thinking before the submission of a planning application in March, 2017. The consultation being carried out will help ensure we deliver a vibrant city centre that meets everyone’s aspirations, creates thousands more jobs and attracts even more investment in future. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
