Swansea is rapidly becoming one of Wales’ top venues for top music concerts after it was announced rock legend Noel Gallagher is heading to Singleton Park this summer to head-up a second rock concert in successive years at the venue. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Last summer Paolo Nutini headlined the Summer in Singleton, attracting thousands to Swansea one night in June. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This time one half of the legendary Manchester band Oasis will be bringing his generation-defining songs and band High Flying Birds on September 2. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Last year’s event was a major boost for tourism, restaurants and bars and Tracey McNulty, Head of Culture and Tourism, said Gallagher fans from all over Britain are expected in Swansea for the Friday night concert. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

She added: “Last year Summer in Singleton attracted thousands of fans for two nights of music headlined by Paolo Nutini on one night and Alfie Boe on the second night. It was a huge boost to local tourist businesses, hotels and bars. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The success of that event has prompted Orchard Entertainment – the people behind last year’s event – to bring Noel Gallagher and a brilliant supporting line-up this year. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“What it shows is just how great a venue Singleton Park is for music concerts of this calibre; we’re really putting Swansea on the live music map.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Orchard director Pablo Janczur, who brought Kings of Leon and JLS to Swansea in previous years, said Swansea was growing in stature as a venue for major live music events. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

He said: “Singleton Park is a lovely venue for live music; the Paolo Nutini show was really special there, so I think Swansea has a great night to look forward to in September. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Noel’s a huge name in in music. He’s one of the biggest-selling artists in the world of music over the last 20 years and he’ll be bringing his generation-defining songs like Don’t Look Back in Anger and Half the World Away with him. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Noel and the band have been getting great reviews of his current shows and we’ve put together a really strong supporting line-up.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Gallagher’s most recent album, Chasing Yesterday, entered the UK charts at Number One last year and was the fastest-selling first-week album of the year. Since then they’ve been on a world tour, including Japan, Australia, North and South America. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Tickets for the September 2 gig are going on sale at 10am on May 6 and are priced at £37.50 including booking fees. There’s more information on the website at Ticketmaster.co.uk or by calling 0844 844 0444 ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The supporting line-up includes Scottish indie rock band Frightened Rabbit who’ve just released their second album, Painting of a Panic Attack, hailed by the critics as a ‘rollercoaster of emotional highs and lows’. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

On the line-up is former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes whose solo career has earned him a Mercury Prize nomination for the album Matador. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Also on the line-up is Merthyr Tydfil-based Pretty Vicious who supported Manic Street Preachers at Cardiff Castle last year and headline the BBC’s ‘Introducing’ stage at Glastonbury. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Gates open on September 2 at 4pm, with first performance at 5.15pm. Tickets are available from 10am on May 6 from ticketmaster.co.uk and on 0844 844 0444, in person from Derricks Records and The Dylan Thomas Centre in Swansea, and Ticketline UK in Cardiff. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
