Have Your Say On Kingsway Proposals In Swansea
Residents in Swansea can still have their say on major plans to redevelop the city’s Kingsway.
Swansea Council is asking for views on the redevelopment plans which include the introduction of two-way traffic along the city centre route, along with improved pedestrian areas and an ‘urban park’ along the northern section of the current Kingsway.
The redevelopment of route will also include the introduction of two-way traffic along surrounding roads including, Alexandra Road, Mansel St, Orchard St, De La Beche St and Belle Vue Way.
The consultation was launched in February and so far more than 70% of people that have taken part are in support of the Council’s plans to improve the route.
David Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Environment & Transportation said: “The early indications are that the public appear to support our intentions to improve the Kingsway.
“The route will play a major role in our wider plans to regenerate the city centre. The proposals we are putting forward will help create an environment that is much more pedestrian-friendly and makes better use of the space we have.
“The ongoing consultation is an important part of the process because we are keen to find out what people think of the plans.”
Transport operator First Cymru has also said the new plans will give them the opportunity look at public transport improvements.
Justin Davies, General Manager of First said: “This proposal gives us the opportunity to look at the possibility of faster journey times in and out of the city on some routes.”
The public have until March 10 to have their say and can go online at www.swansea.gov.uk/thekingsway to complete the consultation.
