Live The Legend In Swansea Bay This Autumn

Shipwrecks, castles and caves will all feature in an imaginative new campaign looking to attract many thousands of visitors to Swansea Bay. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Legendary Adventures campaign being run by Swansea Council will also help promote and support the Visit Wales Year of Legends campaign due to start in the New Year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The council’s tourism team has now made a video available online to kick-start the new campaign, which has already generated over 17,000 views on Facebook and 1,500 click-throughs to the official Visit Swansea Bay website. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Featuring moonlit beaches, crashing waves, windswept coastlines and castles at night, the video has been shared on Visit Swansea Bay’s YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. It’s also been sent to Visit Swansea Bay’s 150 marketing partners to help encourage as many shares as possible to further raise the destination’s profile across the world. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

People are also being asked to use #LiveTheLegend on social media when sharing their own favourite Swansea Bay legend, whether it’s a tale of bygone smugglers, a ghost story or a medieval myth relating to a particular location. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “I suppose a stereotypical perception of Swansea Bay is a world class beach like Rhossili on a glorious summer’s day, but there’s much more to the destination than that. This is why we’re promoting Swansea Bay as a year-round destination because there’s so much to offer in every calendar month. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“As Visit Wales makes the shift from its 2016 Year of Adventure campaign to the 2017 Year of Legends campaign, we’re also making the crossover because Swansea Bay is a fantastic place to visit in the autumn and winter, too. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We’re a destination that’s steeped in legends relating to our people and our places, ranging from medieval castles and ancient burial tombs to a rugged, Celtic coastline with centuries of hidden history. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Swansea Bay truly is a terrific place to visit for legendary adventures, so we hope this campaign will further boost a tourism industry that’s already worth over £400 million a year to the local economy.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Other campaign features include a legendary family adventures page on the official Visit Swansea Bay website to coincide with half-term week. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A new page on the website will also be introduced in the build-up to Halloween to highlight some of the spooky locations included in the Legendary Adventures video. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Two more campaign videos are set to follow in January and March. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
