Making A Stand Against Domestic Abuse
Swansea’s football and rugby stars will be helping celebrate the city’s success in helping tackle male violence against women during White Ribbon Day on Friday November 25.
Swansea Council and the Swansea Domestic Abuse Partnership are working to spread the message that domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women are unacceptable.
The domestic abuse one-stop shop on Singleton Street, directly opposite the Grand Theatre, will be holding a day of events to showcase the work done across the city.
Along with visits from the Ospreys and the Swans, there will be stalls with information and resources, activities, therapy taster sessions and workshops.
Cllr Erika Kirchner, Swansea Council’s Domestic Abuse Champion, said: “This campaign also recognises all the work that has been done by the Domestic Abuse Partnership and Ali Morris, our Domestic Abuse Coordinator, in raising the profile of violence against women being totally unacceptable. The new domestic abuse one-stop shop is testament to our strong partnership work.
“We’re delighted that the Swans and Ospreys, who are role models for girls, boys, women and men in Swansea, are backing this campaign.”
Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “This is an important issue with far-reaching consequences. We all have a role in refusing to accept and tackling domestic abuse.
“The Council is a partner in the Swansea Public Services Board, which brings public service agencies together to improve life in the city. Domestic abuse is one of the partnership’s top four priorities to address.”
The White Ribbon Event runs between 10am and 3pm.
