World famous rockers The Manic Street Preachers will be joining in the celebrations when Wales football manager Chris Coleman is honoured by his home city of Swansea. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Manics, who recorded Together Stronger, the official Wales Euro 2016 anthem, will be performing at the Brangwyn Hall on Thursday October 20 as part of an event called Chris Coleman: A Swansea celebration. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The event, which starts at 7pm, will follow Coleman being offered an Honorary Freedom of the City and County of Swansea accolade from Swansea Council in Guildhall’s council chamber. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Hosted by DJ and local celebrity Kev Johns, Coleman will also be taking to the stage during the event, sharing anecdotes, stories and tales from behind the scenes during his time in charge of the national team so far. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The celebration event, which will include a drinks reception and a three-course gala dinner, has been organised by JR Events and Catering, working closely with Swansea Council. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr David Hopkins, Lord Mayor of Swansea, said: “Known affectionately as Cookie, Chris is a proud Swansea boy who is very deserving of the Freedom of the City and County of Swansea honour. His management of the Welsh team, especially during their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2016, has been inspirational, helping galvanise the support of an entire nation and putting Wales on the map. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“The Freedom of the City ceremony for Chris was already going to be a milestone occasion for Swansea to celebrate, but the addition of the gala dinner event in the Brangwyn Hall straight afterwards will make it extra special. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“JR Events and Catering has a done a terrific job in securing the Manics, one of Wales’ most famous and popular bands, for an evening that will combine the very best in Welsh football, music and entertainment. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Tickets, which are now available, are likely to sell very quickly, so I’d urge anyone who’s interested in coming along to book as soon as possible.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The event at the Brangwyn Hall will also include videos and footage from the Welsh football team, who opened their campaign for World Cup qualification with a 4-0 win over Moldova earlier this month. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Jessica Rice, Director of JR Events and Catering, said: “Wales football fever has swept the nation and continues to do so because of the World Cup qualifiers. The event is not just a celebration of Chris’ achievements so far, but also a good luck boost for the remaining qualifiers too. We want Chris to know that the whole of Swansea and Wales is behind him as he leads the squad to what we all hope will be another hugely successful tournament for our boys. Being joined by world class rock stars, the Manics, is testament to how much the country has fallen in love with Chris. This night will certainly be one to remember.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
