More than 500 school pupils in Swansea will be moving into their brand new home ahead of schedule.
The £9.8 million YGG Lôn Las rebuild is nearing completion and will open in early May rather than September as initially predicted.
Head teacher Karen Thomas said excitement was mounting among the whole school community.
They have been sharing the Ysgol Gymraeg Y Cwm site in Bonymaen while the old dilapidated school buildings were taken down and brand new state-of-the-art facilities built in their place.
Mrs Thomas said: “We are all really excited as the move back draws ever closer. We are looking forward to putting our own unique stamp on them.”

Mrs Thomas said: “We are all really excited as the move back draws ever closer. We are looking forward to putting our own unique stamp on them.”
She said she was certain the new surroundings would inspire the pupils and the children and everyone at the school was looking forward to showing the wider community around once they had settled in.
“I would like to thank Y Cwm for hosting us while the work has taken place. We have had an excellent partnership and we will be wishing them good luck for the future when the infants move into the buildings we are in now,” added Mrs Thomas.
The Lôn Las project is funded by Swansea Council and the Welsh Government as part of a 21st Century Schools programme upgrading school facilities across the city to help improve education and boost pupil attainment.
As well as finishing ahead of schedule Dawnus, the principal contractor for the works, has undertaken extra work at Y Cwm School as well as community benefit activities within both the Bonymaen and Llansamlet areas.
The company has repaired and upgraded access paths to a 6 hectare nature reserve near the Lôn Las site which is one of the few remaining areas of wetland in the city.
It has also teamed up with Swansea Council’s Communities First project and the Beyond Bricks and Mortar Team to deliver a construction training course for unemployed people in Bonymaen giving them the chance of work experience to help them make the right steps towards employment.
Matthew Morgan, Dawnus Regional Director, said: “Lôn Las has been an exemplar project, delivered ahead of time to a high standard, which has been possible through the efforts of the project management team from Dawnus and City and County of Swansea.
“The project has supported Dawnus’ directly employed workforce of over 250 in the Swansea Bay City Region and our regional supply chain, as well as providing new employment opportunities. We have strengthened our working relationship with Swansea and are delighted to provide such a needed, quality facility to the local community.”
Cllr Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, who toured the new build today, said: “I was pupil in the old school in the 1980s when it housed the old Llansamlet Junior Comprehensive. Although I really enjoyed my time there we could never have dreamed of the facilities that more than 500 pupils will enjoy when they move in in May.
“I would congratulate all involved in completing this first class facility ahead of schedule.
“It underlines our aims of investing heavily to improve the surroundings our children are taught in through both the mediums of Welsh and English.”
