New Traffic Controls Could Help With Congestion On Fabian Way

Essential improvement works are being carried out at a main junction on Fabian Way in a bid to speed up traffic flows and reduce congestion into and out of Swansea city centre. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Swansea Council is upgrading the existing traffic lights at the junction of Fabian Way, Port Tennant Road and Langdon Road. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The upgrade will include the installation of a new traffic signal controller and additional vehicle detection equipment in the road. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Temporary traffic signals will be in place while the work is completed and is expected to take three days to complete. A lane closure will also be in place during off-peak periods. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

David Hopkins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation said: “Fabian Way is one of our busiest routes into the city centre and we need to ensure that the equipment we have in place to control traffic is up to date and efficient. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The upgrade will ensure that traffic moving through the junction moves through as quick as possible, reducing congestion in and out of the city. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Obviously, anytime work is carried out on a main road, we would anticipate some disruption to traffic. The majority of the work will be completed off peak and we will do all we can to keep delays to a minimum.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The works are set to commence on Monday 24 October and are expected to be completed on Wednesday 26 October. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
