Night-Time Works For Westway
Night-time working will soon be taking place on Westway in Swansea city centre as a major highway improvement scheme nears completion.
Road resurfacing works will be carried out from Wednesday October 19 to Wednesday October 26 from the Swansea City Bus Station to the road’s junction with Kingsway.
The nature of the works means they have to be done outside the normal working day, so they’ll start from about 6.30pm with the possibility of running through to the early hours of the morning.
Every effort will be made to carry out the noisiest work as early as possible in the evenings to limit the impact on nearby residential areas.
Subject to weather conditions, the works mean Dillwyn Street and Westway will be closed northbound between the bus station and Kingsway on Wednesday October 19, Thursday October 20 and Friday October 21. Westway will then be closed southbound between The Kingsway and the bus station on Monday October 24, Tuesday October 25 and Wednesday October 26.
Well-signed diversions will be in place throughout the resurfacing works.
The Westway improvement scheme is being carried out with funding from the Welsh Government’s Vibrant and Viable Places Swansea City Centre Regeneration programme that was awarded in June, 2014. It will lead to better traffic flows, an improved environment and enhanced pedestrian links between Sandfields and the city centre.
Further lane and road closures will follow over coming weeks to lay specialist surface treatments. These works, part of a low key operation, will be the last affecting the highway as part of the project.
