Outdoor Movie Magic At Oystermouth Castle This Month
Movie magic is set to transport Oystermouth Castle visitors back to the 1950s.
Both Grease and Back to the Future will be shown on a giant screen at the historic attraction later this month.
Swansea Council has worked closely with The Luna Cinema to bring the outdoor screenings to the city for the second year running.
Back to the Future, a 1985 sci-fi classic starring Michael J Fox, tells the story of Marty McFly, who travels back to 1955 in a time machine, where he encounters his parents as teenagers.
Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, is among the most successful movie musicals of all-time. It tells the story of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson, who fall in love in 1950s California.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Outdoor theatre and outdoor cinema have proven especially popular at Oystermouth Castle in recent years, so we’re delighted to have worked so closely alongside The Luna Cinema to bring two more classic films to a big screen there once again this September.
“Following on from the success of Top Gun and Dirty Dancing last year, Grease and Back to the Future are two equally popular films that people of all ages can’t get enough of watching. Tickets are still available, so we’re hoping for a superb atmosphere.
“The outdoor cinema screenings are among many events taking place throughout September and into the autumn as part of our on-going Enjoy Swansea Bay programme of events and activities.”
Back to the Future is being screened on Wednesday September 14 at 7.30pm, with gates opening at 6pm. Grease will follow on Thursday September 15 at the same time.
Other events taking place in September include Noel Gallagher’s High-Flying Birds at Singleton Park on September 2, the British Science Festival from September 6 to September 11, and the Admiral Swansea Bay 10k on September 18.
Seven hours of live music will also feature at a Club MTV concert in Singleton Park on September 24. Sigma, Nero, Professor Green and Jonas Blue are among the big-name dance music artists to have already been confirmed.
