Road Closures For Christmas Lights Event On Thursday (November 10)
This year’s Christmas celebrations are being launched in Swansea on Thursday (November 10) with the switch-on of the city centre’s Christmas lights.
The Kingsway event, scheduled to last from 6pm to 7.30pm, will include giant illuminated balloon acrobatic acts, a laser light show, festive building projections, a 12-metre high inflated arch, live music, and Santa, who will be turning on the Christmas lights.
Swansea Council is behind the fun.
There will also be a range of entertainment on a stage, with support from Swansea BID (Business Improvement District), which will be set up adjacent to the city centre’s Christmas tree at the Kingsway end of Princess Way.
Traditionally held on a Sunday, the Christmas lights switch-on has been moved to a Thursday evening at the request of city centre businesses.
As a result, temporary road closures will be in place to accommodate the event, which is expected to attract thousands of people to Swansea city centre.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “This event will kick-start the Christmas celebrations in Swansea, with many more festive activities planned over the next month or so to generate a terrific festive atmosphere.
“Owing to the nature of the event, some temporary road closures are needed to ensure the safety of everyone attending. This is usual for an event of this kind.
“Waterfront Winterland will also soon be returning to Museum Park, so people have a lot to look forward to.”
These road closures will be in place on the day to accommodate the event, although it’s very likely they’ll be far shorter in duration.
