Road Closures On Saturday October 15 To Accommodate Glynn Vivian Re-Opening Parade

Some road closures will be in place in Swansea city centre on Saturday October 15 to accommodate the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery’s re-opening parade. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The colourful parade, estimated to last about an hour or so, will leave the YMCA on Page Street at 11am before heading to the gallery via St Helen’s Road, Dilwyn Street, Oxford Street, Princess Way, Belle Vue Way and Grove Place. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Rolling road closures will be introduced from 11am to noon on all these roads. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Alexandra Road, where the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery is based, will also be closed from its junctions with Pleasant Street and Orchard Street from midday until it’s safe to reopen. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Swansea Council is behind the parade, which is set to feature alien dancers, giant inflatable swans, puppet heads, crocheted Richard Glynn Vivian beards and a psychedelic film on Castle Square’s big screen. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Featuring works from artists including Picasso and da Vinci, the redeveloped and restored Glynn Vivian Art Gallery will be reopened to the public at 2pm on Saturday. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The gallery’s re-opening follows a multi-million redevelopment project that includes new spaces for exhibitions, recreation, research and conservation. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The multi-million pound redevelopment and restoration project at the Glynn Vivian has been funded by the Arts Council of Wales, Swansea Council, the Welsh Government and the Heritage Lottery Fund. Funding was also secured through the Building Enhancement Programme grant scheme run by Swansea Council and funded by the European Regional Development Fund. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
