Swansea Footgolf Has Now Opened

A fun new outdoor activity for residents and visitors to Swansea is now open at the former Ashleigh Road pitch and putt course. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

FootGolf is a combination of football and golf, where participants use a football to aim for larger holes on the course. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Swansea FootGolf is running the attraction in partnership with Swansea Council. Businessmen Roger Maliphant and Rhydian Thomas presented a successful bid to run the facility after a council search to find operators for a number of its outdoor leisure attractions. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Opening hours are 10am till an hour before dusk every day. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “FootGolf has become very popular in the USA and South America in recent years, so I’m sure many people across Swansea and further afield will enjoy the activity as well. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our partnership with Swansea FootGolf is a win-win because it gives local people and visitors to the city a new activity to take part in, while also saving the taxpayer money on operating and maintenance costs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“All our other seasonal outdoor attractions, including Blackpill lido and the Bay Rider land train, will be re-opening later this month in time for the Whitsun break.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Play on the Swansea FootGolf course will be directed away from the main road. Participants are asked to bring ID with them for ball hire and to wear trainers instead of football boots or blades, which aren’t permitted. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Rhydian Thomas, of Swansea FootGolf, said: “We’re looking forward to creating a different, interesting and exciting facility for Swansea and the surrounding area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The idea of the game is simple, and the course isn’t too difficult or long in its current layout for any ability.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Swansea FootGolf will be having an official opening with local sports stars in June. Events and competitions will also be held throughout the summer. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Concessionary prices are available for under 15s, over 55s and students. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
