Tackle The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile On Sunday
Swansea people inspired by the likes of Eddie Izzard and Alex Jones have the chance to do their bit for Sport Relief this weekend.
Participants are wanted for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile taking place in the city on Sunday (March 20) at 10.15am and 11.15am along the promenade, starting from Blackpill Lido
There are one, three or six-mile distances to pick from.
People can either choose to walk or run the distances. There will also be music, entertainers and representatives from local sporting clubs giving people the opportunity to try different sports such as fencing on the day.
Sport Relief events are taking place throughout the country this weekend to help raise money for people living tough lives both in the UK and overseas.
Alex Jones, who co-presents the BBC’s One Show, has already sailed around the UK to raise money. Comedian Eddie Izzard is running 27 marathons in 27 days across South Africa.
Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Celebrities like Alex and Eddie have done a fantastic job in tackling some incredibly tough challenges to raise money for Sport Relief, but local people can do their bit too. You don’t have to be super fit to take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile here in Swansea on Sunday – you can walk the distance if you like. All that matters is taking part, finishing the distance and raising money.
“This is a great opportunity to boost a fantastic charity that has the power to change deserving people’s lives here in the UK and across the world as a whole, so I’d urge as many Swansea people as possible to take part this weekend. The promenade is a terrific location to tackle the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile. This is a chance for local people to come together and make both themselves and their city proud.”
You can register to take part by going to www.sportrelief.com and typing ‘Swansea’ in the search engine.
