‘Team Swansea’ To Sell City To Chinese Marketplace
A series of trade deals and economic agreements could soon be agreed between Swansea and two leading Chinese cities.
The lucrative, wide-ranging deals that would benefit local tourism, education and economic development will be discussed when a Swansea delegation visits the major Chinese cities of Wuhan and Nantong next week.
Led by Swansea Council, the ‘Team Swansea’ delegation will also include key players from the city’s business and academic communities. All internal travel and hotel costs are being met by Chinese organisations.
The visit will follow on from a friendship agreement Swansea signed with Wuhan earlier this year.
Cllr Rob Stewart, Swansea Council Leader, said: “This ‘Team Swansea’ visit is about getting ahead of the curve, post-Brexit, for the benefit of Swansea businesses and residents.
“China is one of the world’s economic powerhouses, so we’ll be leaving no stone unturned during our visit to sell Swansea to leading Chinese businesspeople and government officials as we look to generate thousands of jobs for local people, boost skills and turbo-charge the Swansea economy.
“These cities, with a combined population of over 15 million people, represent a huge opportunity for Swansea that we’re determined to make the most of. We also hope our time in China will help further promote Swansea Bay as a visitor destination, helping attract many thousands of Chinese holidaymakers here in future.
“The deals we’re looking to kick-start in China will further put Swansea on the map as a business-friendly city that’s at the forefront of innovation and enterprise.”
Penderyn Distillery and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David are among the other companies and organisations represented in the delegation.
