Tourism Team Making The Most Of NBA Superstar’s Swansea Links

Global basketball icon Steve Nash is being tempted to make a visit to Swansea Bay. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Swansea Council’s tourism team has sent the NBA superstar an info-graphic on Twitter, themed on basketball and Swansea Bay as a visitor destination. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The contact comes in the wake of news that Nash’s mother, Jean Hall, grew up in Swansea before moving to London and then South Africa, where Steve was born in 1974. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Called ‘Meet the Swansea Bay All-Stars’, the info-graphic includes reference to Rhossili as Swansea Bay’s MVB (Most Valuable Beach), as well as Oystermouth Castle, which once had a very different kind of court dating back to the 13th century. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Info-Graphic also says 26,400 basketball courts could be accommodated along the length of Swansea Bay. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Regeneration, said: “Steve Nash, who’s followed by close to 2.5m people on Twitter, is one of the world’s most popular basketball stars. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our tourism industry is already worth more than £400m a year to the Swansea Bay economy, but we’re always looking for new, innovative ways to further raise the profile of the destination. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
