Swansea University is enjoying continued success with a ranking of 45th out of 127 UK universities featured in the Complete University Guide 2017 published today (Monday, April 25). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Guide, which has been publishing university and related league tables online since 2007, is independent and ranks UK Universities overall and by subject. Within the overall table, Swansea University appears in the UK top 20 for graduate prospects (17th), top 25 for its Research Quality and is now in the top 40 for the ratio of its students to staff and the proportion of students completing their course. Other improvements include the proportion of students achieving a first-class degree or 2:1, rising to a rank of 41st and Student Satisfaction improving significantly to 43rd. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

‌At subject level, Swansea University has six subjects appearing in the UK top 10, with Medical Technology ranked 2nd, Medicine, and Materials Technology both ranked 6th, Social Work ranked 7th, Celtic Studies ranked 8th and Social Policy ranked 10th. Other subjects making big strides up the tables this year include Geology jumping 9 places to 12th and Marketing jumping 10 places to 17th. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

This excellent news follows the announcement earlier this month that Swansea University, as voted for by its students, was the winner of the 2016 WhatUni award for Best Courses and Lecturers in the UK. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In total, Swansea University was shortlisted in what is believed to be an unprecedented nine out of ten categories demonstrating the depth and breadth of the high quality provision available to students. The University was voted the second best in the UK for its International Student Experience. Was once again voted the third best University in the UK for a second year running after winning the top spot in 2014; third in the UK for the quality of its Clubs and Societies for students; fourth in the UK for Job Prospects for students after graduating, the quality of the Student Support and accommodation provision; eighth in the UK for the quality of the Students’ Union and 10th in the UK for the quality of University facilities. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

In March, Engineering disciplines continued to be ranked among the world’s elite by higher education data specialists QS in the World University Rankings by Subject 2016. Civil and Structural Engineering retained its global top-200 rank, and Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering also joined the top 200, moving up from a position within the top 250 last year. Mathematics also featured within the rankings, occupying a global top-350 position. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

And other recent international successes include appearing in the global top 200 of the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) world ranking of the ‘most international universities’, published in January. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and External Recognition) said: “We are delighted to see Swansea is again in the company of the UK’s elite institutions in the WhatUni Student Choice awards 2016 and the Complete University Guide 2017, and are clearly leading the way in Wales and the UK. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“Our continued success in these and other international and UK league tables is a recognisable measure of our improved performance and rapidly growing reputation based on the hard work and dedication of all staff supporting our students to succeed. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

“These results once again show Swansea as an ambitious, research-led institution with top quality teaching, top level student experience, and an excellent place to study for UK and International students.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
