Success For Swansea Student In PWC Pitch Competition
A Swansea University student has won a business presentation competition run by PwC Swansea and hosted by the University’s Swansea Employability Academy, with a talk on changes to the business sector in the local area.
The PwC Pitch competition, which was open to all Swansea University students, was part of My Employability Week 2016. It focused on ‘The Changing World of Business’, a title which entrants could interpret as they wished. They were asked to present on a topic they were passionate about.
Greg Poole, who studies Business Management at Swansea University, drew on his personal interests, for example in the British Army, to help illustrate his points about the changing world of business, and what this may mean for Swansea in the next decade.
The four finalists were invited into the PwC Swansea office to present to the Senior Management team and have the opportunity to join discuss pathways into joining PwC. Greg Poole was chosen as the winner and awarded a £200 prize.
Winner Greg Poole said:
“I like to take on challenges when they arise and take myself out of my comfort zone. So I went into this competition to gain some exposure in public speaking in front of a professional audience and planning a business pitch.
The business pitch itself was really good; to gain some more knowledge on the potential of businesses in Swansea was invaluable. Where Swansea is heading over the next decade was not only really interesting but exciting as well.
I would definitely recommend others to get involved in the future. It was also a real privilege to meet and present in front of PwC in Swansea. They were outstanding, informative, and friendly and it made it a really enjoyable experience.”
Dr Jon Howden-Evans, head of Swansea Employability Academy, said:
“It is great to see the relationship with PwC grow – this competition is another example of the support they have provided to the development of the Swansea Employability Academy and our students, now based across our Park and Bay campuses.
This competition tests our talented students and we look forward to working together to develop opportunities where our students, PwC and employers across the region feel the benefit.”
