University Launches Ancient Languages Summer School 2016

People interested in learning ancient languages will have the opportunity to learn Latin, Greek Medieval Latin and even Hieroglyphs at a summer school organised by Swansea University’s College of Arts and Humanities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Staff from the Department of History and Classics will run the summer school from 17th to 30 July 2016 with the courses correspond to one semester of the language at university. The intensive courses will be at various levels and include Beginners, Post-Beginners, Intermediate, Intermediate-Advanced, and Advanced Latin and Greek, as well as Beginners and Post-Beginners Egyptian and Medieval Latin. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Courses are open to all ages 12+ but 12-18 year olds are welcome when accompanied by an adult who takes full responsibility for the child. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Summer School Director Dr Evelien Bracke, said: “Classes will be taught by members of staff from the Department of History and Classics at Swansea University as well as other academics and school teachers. Profits from the Summer School will be used to fund our outreach activities, such as the Literacy through Classics project which brings Classics and particularly the ancient languages to schools in local deprived areas.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Anyone interested in taking part can apply online and also apply for bursaries. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
