Children’s Commissioner Discusses Living In Care In Torfaen
The Children’s Commissioner for Wales visited some of Torfaen’s young people in foster care last week.
Professor Sally Holland visited young people in Cwmbran to discuss the positives and negatives they have experienced growing up in the care system, in particular new legislation, ‘When I’m ready’.
Before this legislation was put in place, young people would have to leave their foster home at 18, whether they were ready or not, however, they are now able to continue living in care, when requested, if they are still in education, training or employment.
Sally Holland commented: ‘I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to meet young people in Torfaen today who are using social services. It was great to hear at first hand young people’s views and experiences in Torfaen and discussing with them how all young people can be helped to make a successful transition to adulthood. This area of work is one of my priorities following my recent large-scale consultation with children and young people all round Wales’.
