Pupils Sow Wild Flowers At Boating Lake

Pupils from Llanyrafon Primary School have helped to sow wild flower seeds at the newly renovated car park at Cwmbran Boating Lake. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

They planted a sea of colourful flowers such as corn-cockle, cornflower, oxeye daisy and field poppy, and also some flowering cherry trees. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The car park has recently been extended to more than 40 marked parking spaces, as well as dedicated disabled bays nearer to the boating lake facilities. A sustainable drainage system has been installed to help address issues of flooding in wet weather. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The work was funded by Section 106 monies from local housing developments allocated to provide improvements to recreational facilities and public open space in the area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Croesyceiliog and Llanyrafon Community Council have also provided additional funding for new bins and benches to be installed, and trees and wild flowers to be planted around the car park. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
