170 Barry Children Get Upbeat!
With the support of Barry Communities First, pupils from a range of Barry primary and secondary schools have recently performed a fantastic musical and visual event at Barry Comprehensive School.
The event, which was held on the 15th of February, included pupils from Gladstone, Jenner Park, Palmerston and Holton primary schools, alongside pupils from Barry and Bryn Hafren secondary schools.
Prior to the event, pupils took part in a six-week musical tuition course provided by Upbeat Music and Arts, which included Brazilian Samba and Beat Boxing.
The course aimed to encourage all children from the various schools to work together and ended in the amazing visual and musical performance at Barry Comprehensive School.
The children performed the concert in front of an audience of over 100 parents, staff and the Governors of Barry Comprehensive School.
Holly Morgan, Barry Communities First’s Transition Officer, said: “I would like to thank Upbeat Music and Arts, and all of the schools involved in this project, as well as the young people and families involved.”
Deputy Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Education, Councillor Lis Burnett, added: “It is through projects like this that young people in the Vale are able to feel more confident when making the step up to Secondary school.
“Barry Communities First have done a great job in creating an event that is fully inclusive, fun, and beneficial to all of the young pupils involved.”
This project formed part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council-led Barry Communities First’s Transition project, which gives Year 6 and 7 pupils the opportunity to work together to build their confidence and abilities in order to make the transition to a
Secondary school easier.
