A-Level Success Across The Vale

Students across the Vale of Glamorgan have had their nervous wait for their A-Level results come to an end, with pupils yet again achieving above the national average. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Over 98% of the Vale of Glamorgan pupils taking WJEC A-Levels this year have achieved grades A*-E, half a percent higher than in 2015, and over one percent higher than the Welsh average. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

With the national average being 97.3%, this represents strong progress in education across the Vale of Glamorgan. There was also this year a significant increase in the number of students entered for both AS and A levels. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

More than 20% of all pupils in the Vale at both A and AS level achieved the highest possible grades, A* or A.
At A-Level 23.2% of pupils achieved A* – A, 0.5% above the national average of 22.7%. While 77.3% of pupils achieved grades A*- C, compared to a national average of 73.8%. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

At A/S Level, another increase in the percentage of pupils achieving the top grade saw 21.1% achieve an A*, whilst the percentage of pupils achieving grades between A – E remained at 89.8%. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Lis Burnett, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Education, said: “This year’s A-Level results show clearly that the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s programme of investment into our schools is continuing to pay dividends for our young people. In recent months I have seen first-hand just how hard pupils, teachers, and support staff work to get such fantastic results.
