Barry Island Promenade Praised By Green Flag Awarding Body
BARRY Island Promenade has been given glowing feedback in the report by Keep Wales Tidy that saw it receive a Green Flag Award – the international mark of a quality outdoor space.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s prestige site was showered with praise when it underwent an assessment for the award.
A compliment-filled report, compiled by Keep Wales Tidy, who help deliver the Green Flag scheme with support from Welsh Government, contained a number of eye-catching comments.
These included:
“Really excellent work on the site over the last few years.”
“It’s lovely to see the whole site in such wonderful condition – great effort has been taken to ensure the blending of old with new in terms of physical infrastructure (changing rooms, bandstand, art installation etc.).”
“The team are to be commended for recognising the entire character of the bay and island and including the fantastic conservation elements in the Green Flag submission that really put it the top of its class.”
Lucy Prisk, the Green Flag Coordinator said: “We were so impressed with Barry Island Promenade when assessing it for a Green Flag Award. The site had an exceptionally high mark for a site being assessed for the first time.
“Our parks and green spaces play an important role in our communities, but their benefits are often taken for granted.
“I’d like to congratulate everyone involved in maintaining such an excellent space – this is clearly a well-loved and well used site.”
Vale of Glamorgan Council Leader Neil Moore said: “The Council has been committed to regene
rate Barry Island and the rest of the town committing substantial resources to improve these areas. We are, therefore, delighted to receive such a wholehearted endorsement from Keep Tidy Wales for all the work that has been carried out. The Island has undergone a sustained period of improvement and we are thrilled it is now being talked about as one of the best outdoor spaces in the country. I would like to
thank everyone involved in making this a great success story.”
