Changes To Waste Collections Explained
Changes to waste collection dates across the Vale came in to effect on 01 August 2016
Why are we making changes?
The Vale recycled an impressive 64% of its waste in 2014/15 but by 2024 we will, as a county, have to push this figure above 70% to meet new legal targets. To do this we will all have to continue to change the way we dispose of our waste and we at the Council will have to continue to change how we collect it. The changes to waste collection schedules are designed to reduce the cost of waste collection and provide a more efficient service.
How have we let people know?
We appreciate that a change of collection day can cause disruption and that is why we have used every form of communication available to us to let residents know about the changes in advance.
There are some 56,937 households in the Vale of Glamorgan. We have sent a letter to every home, advertised the changes in the local press, shared news about new collection days on social media, and featured the information on the front page of the Council’s website.
What if my bins haven’t been collected?
Where residents have not been aware that their collection day has changed we have put on extra one off collections to clear the streets. On Thursday we cleared black bags that were put out in the Butts and Barry Road area of Barry the previous day. During Friday and Saturday we will be undertaking a one off sweep of the whole West End of the town including Barry Island to ensure the streets are clear.
How can I check my collection day?
Every household in the Vale should have received a letter advising of any change to waste collection days. The letter will tell you when your black bags, dry recycling, food waste, and garden waste will be collected.
