Council To Switch Off The Lights For Earth Hour
The Vale of Glamorgan Council will, for one hour, switch off the lights at the Civic Offices, as it once again announces its support for Earth Hour – the annual, global celebration of the planet.
At 8.30pm on Saturday 25 March, the Council will be joining forces with landmarks across the globe – such as the Senedd in Cardiff Bay, Sydney Harbour Bridge, and New York’s Times Square – by switching off the lights at its headquarters.
2017 marks Earth Hour’s tenth year, and, by taking part, the Vale of Glamorgan Council is showing its commitment to tackling climate change.
Around half a million people in Wales participate in Earth Hour every year. By taking part, they’re showing that they want to see action being taken to tackle climate change.
Councillor Neil Moore, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “We are very proud to be supporting WWF’s Earth Hour once again in 2017. Local authorities like ours play a huge part in tackling and educating people, when it comes to climate change, so we’re looking forward to switching off the lights at the Civic Offices in order to show our support.”
Anne Meikle, Head of WWF Cymru, added: “We’re delighted that the Vale of Glamorgan Council is supporting WWF’s Earth Hour again this year. Climate change will have a massive effect on people’s lives here in Wales and around the world. So it’s great that Wales’ local authorities are throwing their weight behind the call for action to tackle it.
