Former electrical appliances shop in Penarth set to be transformed into two independent shops, pending council decision.

Plans submitted to Vale of Glamorgan Council show how a former electrical appliances shop could be transformed.
The applicant, Charles M Willie and Co (Property) Ltd, is hoping to turn the building formerly occupied by Kitchener & Thomas on Windsor Road, Penarth, into two independent shops.
Kitchener &Thomas Ltd, established in 1942, closed its Windsor Road shop last year due to retirement and unforeseen circumstances.
Current plans for the building, which the council is yet to make a decision on, also include proposals for new dormers and the construction of a rear extension.
In a design and access statement, Loyn and Co Architects said its client wishes to “improve the building and in turn bring an interesting offering to the high street, as is their approach to other buildings owned nearby”.
An application for the development to include two additional residential flats and an enlargement to one of the existing flats in the building was withdrawn earlier in August.
Refurbishment of the shopfront will take into account the building and town’s Victorian heritage.
Loyn and Co Architects added: “The proposal is to redesign the existing shop front and front elevation referencing the proportions of the original design which has been much altered and degraded over the years with insensitive amendments.
“A rear extension is also proposed to provide additional retail space to make the commercial building viable.
“This is both in terms of long-term viability and also viability in terms of the shop front renovation costs.”
The new rear dormers to the existing flats to the front of the building will be re-planned as upside down flats. This design means that the bedroom is on the ground floor and the living space is above.
