Nell’s Point Toilet Block To Be Surveyed For Repairs
The disused art-deco toilet block that greets visitors to Barry Island is to undergo further structural surveying as part of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s work to bring the building back into use.
The Grade II-listed public conveniences were successfully marketed as part of the larger Nell’s Point site in late 2015. However, despite the Council’s economic development team working with the preferred bidder, their agents, and representatives of Welsh Government for 11 months to explore a number of different options to bring forward the proposed development no deal could be struck.
An initial survey undertaken in December revealed that in the intervening period the condition of the some of the buildings’ features has deteriorated. The building has now been fenced off to prevent any risk to the public while the Council’s surveyors conduct a more thorough investigation of the toilet block.
The outcome of this investigation will then inform the local authority’s decision on how best to ensure the local landmark can be preserved for the future.
