New Play Area For Castleland To Be Completed Before Easter
Construction of a new play area for Castleland in Barry is progressing well and is due to be completed in time for the Easter school holiday.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council set aside £60,000 earlier this year for a major upgrade of the park that sits between Holton Road and Hunt Place, near to Barry’s town centre.
A community consultation was undertaken in the summer to give local residents a say in the plans and work began earlier this month.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Neil Moore, accompanied by Deputy Leader Cllr Lis Burnett and Cabinet Member for Visible, Leisure and Regulatory Services Cllr Gwyn John, visited the site recently to view the final plans for the play area and see the progress made so far.
Cllr Moore said: “Over the past year we have embarked on the next chapter of regeneration for Barry, one that focuses on upgrading the public spaces and play areas that sit at the heart of our communities.
“The play area that was here before was underused, partly because it was hidden from the road. The consultation told us that this was a worry for some parents so as well as upgrading the play equipment and landscaping the park we are also replacing the fencing and cutting back some of the trees so the park can be clearly seen from Holton Road.
“This is just one example of the many projects currently underway that are helping us deliver our goal of building strong communities across the Vale.”
The new play area at Hunt Place will feature new pathways, swings, a roundabout and a landscaped lawn area.
There are currently eight similar projects underway across Barry and Penarth to improve public spaces and parks.
