Plans Submitted to Redevelop Old Post Office Site in St Brides Major, South Wales

The site of an old Post Office in a south Wales village could become a new house and set of flats if plans are approved.
Robin Thorsten Ltd has put plans to Vale of Glamorgan Council to redevelop the site of The Old Post Office in St Brides Major into a two-storey home, four flats, and a “commercial unit”.
The two-storey home would be three bedrooms and be on the left of the Post Office while the Post Office itself would be redeveloped into three flats and a commercial unit.
The plot on the right of the former Post Office would become a one-bedroom single-storey “garden dwelling”.
Planning documents read: “The layout has been carefully structured to create a coherent and legible sequence of spaces that reinforce the character of Ewenny Road and support the placemaking aims of the scheme.”
It continues: “The retained commercial unit maintains an active ground-floor presence, contributing to village life and supporting day-to-day activity.”
The “architectural language” of the development “draws directly” from the local vernacular, using “a restrained palette” of stone and render walls, slate roofs, and street-facing gables to “echo the traditional forms of St Bridges Major”.
The “detailing” is called “intentionally simple and robust” which reflects “the understated character of the village and ensuring longevity”.
Planning documents add: “This approach not only reinforces local identity but also replaces the existing eyesore with a building that contributes positively to the streetscene.
“The result is a calm, coherent, and contextually appropriate appearance that enhances the setting of the conservation area and supports the placemaking objectives of Planning Policy Wales.”
The proposal has also been designed to “safeguard the amenity and privacy of both existing neighbours and future occupants”.
