The Atomic Touch Festival Returned To Barry This Year

On Wednesday 20 April, year 5 and 6 girls from 7 local primary schools, gathered at Holm View Leisure Centre to try their hand at Atomic Touch. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Atomic Touch is fast paced game and has similarities to touch rugby, netball and ultimate frisbee. It was created as a way of encouraging more children to get involved with touch rugby. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In total, 80 girls attended the festival. Their day began with a number of skill sessions, before they took part in a series of games in the afternoon, putting their new skills to the test. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Sophie Wilkinson, Active Young People Officer, said, “The Atomic Touch festival has been a fantastic event held over the past two years. It provides local girls with the opportunity to try rugby in a fun environment without the pressure of tackling or passing backwards. The girls have had a fantastic day today and I hope many of them continue playing outside of school.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
