The Community Of Wenvoe: Have Your Say!
Following the successful community mapping work in St. Athan, the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Creative Rural Communities Team is working with the Wenvoe Community Council on another community mapping project.
Lis Burnett, Deputy Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Education, said of the projects: “Following the great success of the community mapping pilot in St Athan, we’re extending the pilot to the Wenvoe and Rhoose communities. The work in St. Athan has brought people together to champion their community and drive forward new activities and projects.”
Community mapping is a way of bringing a community together to focus on the positives in their neighbourhood, and to also look at solutions to any problems arising.
The process involves getting people talking about what already exists, in terms of social assets (community groups and organisations and individuals), physical assets (community centres, open spaces and businesses), and what really matters to the community.
By working with the community of Wenvoe, the Creative Rural Communities Team hopes to develop the assets in the area and identify opportunities for new future initiatives.
The Creative Rural Communities team will be at the Wenvoe Village Show on Saturday 17 September from 2.00pm to 4.30pm.
