Vale Council Aims To Protect Fields For Future Generations

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has recently approved a report that outlines a wish to provide ‘Centenary Field’ status to a playing field in Llanmaes. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

By entering into a ‘deed of dedication’ to provide ‘Centenary Field’ status to the playing field in Llanmaes, the Council aims to ensure that it remains a site of recreation for future generations. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Permission was also granted to Llanmaes Community Council to develop a memorial garden in a corner of the field. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

‘Centenary Fields’ is an initiative by Fields in Trust, a UK-wide project which aims to protect war memorial fields and green spaces across the country. Delivered in partnership with The Royal British Legion, it commemorates those that lost their lives during World War 1. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Gwyn John, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Visible, Leisure and Regulatory Services, said: “Parks and green spaces are highly valued by residents across the Vale of Glamorgan. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“By granting ‘Centenary Field’ status, we are preserving this popular park for the future, and remembering those who have served us in the past. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“These parks bring communities together, and I hope Llanmaes will do this for many years to come.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
