Vale Tops Council League Table For Second Year

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has been ranked as the highest performing local authority in Wales for the second year running. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The 2015/16 local government performance bulletin, compiled by the Data Unit Wales, assesses councils’ performance in 44 high priority areas. The Vale of Glamorgan Council was ranked in the top group of councils for 26 of these. The Vale of Glamorgan performed better than the average in three quarters of all measures when compared with other councils in South East Wales and in 77% of the indicators when compared with all councils across the country. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Most notably the Vale of Glamorgan Council recorded perfect performance for nine key areas of its work. Achievements in these areas included ensuring that no pupils (including looked after children) left compulsory education, training or work based learning without an approved external qualification and that 100% of the Vale’s carers needs were assessed. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Neil Moore, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “Everyone at the Vale of Glamorgan Council is naturally delighted to see the Council ranked as the best performing in Wales for the second year running. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our first-rate performance in recent years has been driven by the knowledge that our services have a direct impact on the quality of life experienced by all residents of the Vale of Glamorgan. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“After topping the performance table in 2015 I said that we could not be complacent and must push ourselves to do in even better in future. This is exactly what has happened. We have not just maintained our position, but have in fact improved our performance in more than half of these vital areas of our work.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Data Unit Wales’ recognition of the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s high performance comes less than two weeks after the authority was praised by the Local Government Secretary, Mark Drakeford AM, and the Auditor General for Wales, Huw Vaughan Thomas, when the Council received an “overwhelmingly positive” corporate assessment from the Wales Audit Office. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
