Vale’s Christmas Tree Collection Service Complete

The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s waste and recycling teams have had a busy time collecting residents’ Christmas trees recently, with residents being able to put them kerbside with their regular refuse and recycling collections. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Now that they have been collected, the trees have been taken to Cowbridge Compost at Llwynheli, where – along with garden and food waste – they are to be turned into compost. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Visible, Leisure and Regulatory Services, Cllr Gwyn John, visited the farm to see the work done by the Cowbridge Compost team, who have been composting organic wastes for over 15 years. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr John said: “After a busy Christmas, we all have to do the arduous job of stripping down the decorations and then find a way of packing it all away. The Council’s Christmas tree collection service has provided residents with a convenient, stress-free and environmentally-friendly way of recycling our trees. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“It’s been fantastic to see so many residents using the service, and making a vital contribution to our environment. The team here do a great job of recycling the waste, and it’s been encouraging to witness the increased awareness of residents when it comes to recycling and the environment.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Michelle Fitzpatrick, Recycling Officer at the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “We’re really pleased with the response from Vale residents, and we’d like to encourage even more to make their New Year’s resolution to be greener than ever before.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Residents can collect compost for free between 10am – 2pm on the last Sunday of every month at Court Road Depot, Barry. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
