Caerphilly’s Waste Management Team receive Mayor’s Award

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Waste Management Team received a Mayor’s Award on Tuesday 26th January following their success at the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management’s (CIWM) Sustainability and Resource Awards. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Waste Management Team scooped the award for their proactive work in promoting re-use and recycling. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The team have spear-headed a number of campaigns and initiatives, as well as supporting existing campaigns to ensure that the borough recycle as much as possible. The Waste Management Team also focus on educating residents on the importance of recycling and the damage that sending large amounts of waste to landfill can do. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Each year, the team work to promote long running incentives such as Real Nappy Week, Recycle Week and Compost Awareness week by holding awareness sessions within the borough. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “Winning this award truly displays the team’s commitment to their work and I am delighted they have received recognition. I am sure that we will continue to see excellent results, due to the hard work and dedication of the team”. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
