Sport Caerphillly Community Volunteer Sports Awards 2016
On Tuesday 26 January Sport Caerphilly hosted their annual Community Volunteers Sports Awards, which recognises the outstanding contribution made by volunteers throughout the borough, at the Bryn Meadows Golf Club.
The Community Volunteer Awards recognises and rewards the heroes of grassroots sports – whether that’s a club, a league or a volunteer. Without the energy, enthusiasm and continued dedication of these clubs, leagues and volunteers grassroots sports in so many communities would not be possible.
The event was hosted by ex-international footballer and inspirational speaker Kelly Davies, who spoke about her successes and shared inspirational stories with the volunteers throughout the evening.
Rhymney Valley Athletics Club stole the show on the night with Ruth Powell, Chairwoman at RVAC, winning both Volunteer of the Year Award and Outstanding Contribution Award and the club itself winning the Club of the Year award.
Other winners on the night included Kate Flower, a coach of the future participant and Platinum Ambassador, who won Young Volunteer of the Year Award, Peter Key, Head Coach Dragons Disability Swim Squad, won the Arriva Trains Wales Disability Coach of the Year Award, Claire Chetland, a Netball volunteer, won Inclusive Coach of the Year Award and Jonathan Morgan, Head Coach at Caerphilly Tennis Club picked up the award for Community Coach of the year.
Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community & Leisure Services said: “It is great that we are able to put on this event every year to show just how grateful we are of the incredible work that all of our sports volunteers do for our grassroots sports. I would like to thank them once again and wish them and their clubs the very best of luck in the future.”
