Volunteers needed for exciting rugby project
The council’s sport and leisure team are looking for volunteers to take part in a rugby pilot project.
Young women in the Ammanford area who are not in education or training and who are not engaged in an active lifestyle are invited to apply for one of 25 places.
The NEET project is a 15-week documented programme aimed at encouraging young people between the age of 16 and 25 to keep fit and health by being active in sport.
The successful applicant will be supported through the initiative by experienced sport and leisure officers as well as WRU representatives. The programme will conclude with a celebration and the women representing a rugby team at an invitational tournament.
Support will also be given to ensure the women entry into a club environment following the programme.
The council’s executive board member for leisure, Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “This is an exciting programme that has already been trialled in a couple of our schools and has been very successful. Not only will the project inspire them to lead a healthy and active lifestyle but it will have a positive impact on their personal life giving them the confidence to believe in themselves when otherwise they may not.”
A similar project has already been piloted in two schools with huge success with plans to roll out in other sports later in the year. Contact Hywel at HywelThomas@carmarthenshire.gov.uk
