Decision On Aberystwyth Park And Ride Service Postponed

In a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 28 June 2016, Ceredigion County Council Cabinet decided to postpone the decision about whether to renew the contract for the current Park & Ride (P&R) service in Aberystwyth. This issue will first be presented to the Thriving Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee for their consideration. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

A meeting of the Thriving Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee will be held shortly and the recommendations from this meeting will be taken to Cabinet on Tuesday 19 July 2016. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Costing the Council £69,000 a year to run, the current P&R service operates a circular route around Aberystwyth town centre with Bronglais Hospital being a key part of this. As part of identifying efficiencies to achieve the necessary financial savings the P&R service has been highlighted as an area to be examined. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The P&R service is part of the Council’s Transformation Programme, which is part of looking to make enforced savings of £8.6m this year (2016/17). ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
