Dyfed-Powys Police Statement Following Conclusion Of Darran Hunt Inquest

Assistant Chief Constable of Dyfed-Powys Police, Pam Kelly, said: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“On behalf of Dyfed-Powys Police, I wish to pass on my sympathy to the family of Darran Hunt who died in such tragic circumstances. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“I note the return of a Narrative Verdict from the inquest that the deployment of PAVA spray and physical contact may have been contributory factors to Mr Hunt’s death. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Immediately after the incident we referred the case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which carried out an investigation and has concluded there is no case to answer in respect of any use of force or use of PAVA spray. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Incidents of this nature are difficult to deal with and I appreciate the inquest’s recognition of such professional challenges and in particular the efforts of officers and paramedics to resuscitate Mr Hunt.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
