Dyfed Powys Police Supports National Safeguarding Week
Dyfed Powys Police, working with key partner agencies, is supporting a week long public awareness campaign to raise the profile of child and adult safeguarding in the force area.
The National Safeguarding Week (Nov 14th – 18th) will highlight a wide range of current issues which come under the Safeguarding umbrella.
During the week a new website will be launched focussing on the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children and adults in Mid and West Wales. It has been developed by the regional safeguarding boards, CYSUR for children and CWMPAS for adults.
The purpose is to provide an information-sharing hub accessible to members of the public and professional agencies across the whole region – encompassing Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Powys.
The website can be accessed via two addresses – www.cysur.wales and www.cwmpas.wales
There will be also be themed days running throughout the week, starting on Monday, which will focus on providing Support for People in Mental Distress. Tuesday will focus on Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and Missing People, Wednesday on Domestic Abuse, Child Protection on Thursday and Honour Based Violence rounding off the week of activities on Friday.
Assistant Chief Constable Pam Kelly, Dyfed Powys Police said:
“We are pleased to support this Safeguarding Week to increase awareness of child and adult safeguarding in the force area and to highlight what support services are available to victims.
We hope the week long events, focussing on different themes, and the new websites will increase knowledge about safeguarding issues which will in turn impact positively on behaviours and attitudes so the welfare and safety of children and adults at risk are improved.”
Detective Superintendent Steve Cockwell- Protecting Vulnerable People department said
“Safeguarding the vulnerable within our community is a priority for Dyfed-Powys Police. This week officers will be engaging with Mental Health teams, residential care providers, schools and the community to ensure that Safeguarding is at the centre of people’s thoughts and that everyone knows what support can be accessed”.
