Health Board Is Issuing A Warning To Raise Awareness Of The Risks Of Drug Misuse

Dyfed-Powys Police and Powys Teaching Health Board are issuing an alert after a small number of people from Builth Wells, Powys were admitted to hospital suffering what is believed to be the effects of a bad batch of Ecstasy drugs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Alan Lawrie from Powys Teaching Health Board said: “The health board is issuing a warning to raise awareness of the risks of drug misuse in light of this incident. Like any drug, ecstasy can produce unexpected and even dangerous side effects. At its most extreme, ecstasy overdose can cause organ damage due to increased body temperature and may cause death by heat stroke and heart failure. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The Health Board urges those who feel unwell after taking drugs to seek medical help immediately.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Inspector Brian Jones from Dyfed Powys Police added: “People were hospitalised after taking what is described as a green tablet. There have been a number of persons arrested as a result of this incident and there have been seizures of controlled drugs in the Brecon and Builth Wells area. Our School Community Police Officers are currently raising awareness within High Schools around the dangers of taking drugs and we ask anyone with information about the supply or use of controlled drugs to contact the police confidentially through the non-emergency telephone number 101.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
