Nominate a Neighbour Scheme Launched
Communities in Llanelli are being asked to nominate a neighbour who would benefit from a home visit from the police and fire services.
The Nominate a Neighbour scheme has been launched in the town by Dyfed Powys Police and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
It aims to encourage residents to think about their neighbours and do something positive that could help improve their quality of life.
Nominations can be made by contacting their Neighbourhood Policing Team via email or by calling 101 giving the name and address of the person they are nominating.
A Neighbourhood Policing officer will contact the nominated person to arrange a multi-agency home visit to discuss crime prevention and fire safety.
The initiative will be trialled in Llanelli Town initially, including the wards of Bigyn, Elli/Lliedi, Glanymor, Tyisha and Hengoed. If it is successful, the scheme could be rolled out to other areas.
PCSO Jessica Thomas said: “We look forward to receiving nominations from the public of people they believe would benefit from a home visit. We are keen to reach as many of our more vulnerable residents as possible whether that is through age, ability or other circumstances that make them vulnerable or isolated.
“We plan to offer crime prevention advice and reassurance so they feel less fearful of crime and working with our fire colleagues will help us deliver a broader package helping nominees to feel more safe and secure in their homes.”
Home Safety Manager for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service Adrian Smith said: “Partnership working helps us identify members of the public who are more vulnerable to risk and we welcome this opportunity of delivering shared services with Dyfed Powys Police and promoting our message of home fire safety and smoke alarm ownership.”
